Mike Smith
Mike was born and raised on a potato farm in Aroostook County, Maine (no, really). As a guide and instructor, Mike specializes in whitewater kayaking, sea kayaking, & mountain biking. Among his many qualifications, Mike is a Wilderness First Responder, PSIA Telemark Instructor, Nordic Ski Coach and Instructor, ACA Whitewater Kayak Instructor, registered Maine Guide and a registered Maine Sea Kayak Guide. He also makes a mean Cuba Libre.
Mike made his first trip to Central America just after graduating from college with a degree in sociology in 2003. After paddling in Costa Rica for several weeks he moved on to Panama. He has since gone on to work for Boquete Outdoor Adventures, and has no plans to ever return to Costa Rica.
When not in Panama Mike also manages a small bike / ski shop called MOJO in Maine. He loves to spend his winters playing in the snow, and in the spring and summer his attention turns to exploring the lesser known creeks and rivers of Maine.
Although outdoor adventure holds a huge place in Mike’s life, his greatest passion is people, particularly youth. And he works hard to engage young people around him to discover themselves and the world around them through adventure. Some day Mike hopes to build an educational program of his own with the most important tenets of his life - farming, paddling, adventure, and amazing people…OH, and bacon. Definitely bacon…
