John Miller
President, founder, guide and chief dreamer, John Miller has been paddling, exploring, teaching and guiding in Panama’s Chiriqui Province since 1997. Recognized in the paddling community as Panama’s resident whitewater expert, John has led dozens of first descents in the Chiriqui Province alone and is responsible for much of the logistical research that has led to more than 35 documented whitewater runs and the thriving paddling destination that is Boquete. Though he has many talents and interests, exploration remains John’s primary passion, and he is always ready for an adventure. Over the years John has explored some of the most remote and beautiful areas of Panama, and Boquete Outdoor Adventures was born of his desire to share these places with you. In fact, give him a chance and he’ll get out the maps and the GPS and before you know it, you’ll be on your way to some amazing place few foreigners have ever been.
Both on and off the water, you are in excellent company with John. A veritable goldmine of trivia and historical knowledge, his is the sort of brain that never forgets anything…except of course, where he last placed his keys. Having worked professionally over the years as a civil engineer and carpenter, John also spent ten years working at the Nantahala Outdoor Center as a raft guide and kayak instructor. John is an ACA certified kayak and canoe instructor, ACA certified kayak Instructor Trainer (IT) and has extensive experience teaching all levels of paddling and river rescue. In addition, he also has extensive experience raft guiding, rock climbing, mountain biking, sea kayaking and backpacking. John has led trips in Honduras and Panama and has paddled extensively in Central America and New Zealand. In addition, John has worked as a summer camp counselor and has extensive experience working with youth programs.
John relocated from Asheville, North Carolina to Boquete, Panama in September 2007 with his wife Robin and their twins, Read & Emma. The Miller family plans to make Panama their permanent residence and to continue the tradition of exploration and adventure for generations to come!
