Why Panama?
Recognized as one of the most biologically diverse places on Earth, Panama’s geographical, biological, cultural, historical and recreational diversity are boundless. And in addition to abundant natural wonders, Panama is host to unparalleled cultural diversity. The unique cultures and native people of Panama are vividly apparent with the Emberá in the region of the Chagres outside Panama City, the Kuna in San Blas, and the Ngöbe-Bugle in and around Boquete. These characteristics combined with Panama’s stable, democratic government and first-world infrastructure make it an extraordinary outdoor adventure vacation destination.
The Birth of BOA
Boquete Outdoor Adventures was founded in 2004 in response to the growing demand for professionally operated outdoor adventure expeditions and daytrips in Central America. Some of the best outdoor recreational venues in the world, such as whitewater kayaking, are located in Panama’s Chiriqui province. And whereas neighboring Costa Rica also boasts excellent whitewater and other outdoor recreational opportunities (as well as an established tourism industry), it lacks the first-world infrastructure so vital to exploring and accessing remote watersheds and other outdoor recreational venues. In fact, Panama’s well-developed infrastructure is the best in all of Central America, far better even than in countries with more developed tourist industries such as Costa Rica. In Panama’s Chiriqui province alone, one can travel from mountains to sea, from cloudforest to rainforest, from mangroves to pristine white sand beaches and uninhabited islands all in a single day. So in a sense, Panama had it all. What it lacked prior to 2004 was the presence of professionally-trained and certified guides, tour operators and outfitters. Thus, BOA was born and today is proudly recognized as one of Panama’s premier provider of all-inclusive custom whitewater, sea kayaking, multi-sport and family adventure vacations.
Today, with many of its highlands and lowlands rarely visited and relatively unknown, Panama offers a rich, authentic third-world experience that one can only find off the beaten path. World-class whitewater, limitless outdoor recreational opportunities, unique ecological & cultural diversity and all the accoutrements that accompany first-world infrastructure make Panama an extraordinary adventure vacation destination.
Our Location
Boquete Outdoor Adventures is located in the beautiful mountains of the Chiriqui province in western Panama. The many varied ecosystems of Panama support an incredible variety of life, and the abundance of water unique to the Chiriqui province provides a lifeline to a particularly diverse host of plants, animals and mammals. The lowlands and highlands of the Chiriqui province, well-known by the most dedicated of outdoor enthusiasts for many years now, support an awesome variety of outdoor activities such as whitewater kayaking, birding, sea kayaking, rafting, backpacking, biking, snorkeling, sport fishing and surfing. The combination of biological diversity and recreational opportunity unique to the Boquete region provides a dramatic backdrop for exploration and adventure!
What We Do
We specialize in exploring and playing in the throbbing jungles, wild rivers and uninhabited islands of Panama! Multi-day whitewater kayaking trips have historically been the mainstay of BOA’s business, but whitewater kayaking is just one of many exceptional ways to explore and play in Panama! Today, we offer a wide variety of multi-day sea kayaking trips, as well as multi-day wilderness and multi-sport adventures for families and groups. And in January 2008 we started offering a variety of all-inclusive day trips, to give the traveler just passing through Boquete a snapshot of the excitement that makes our all-inclusive multi-day trips so popular!
